I’m not mad. The Escape ST is a cool little game

Just gonna keep repeating to myself that it’s going to be a spiritual successor to the Forester XT.

Who at ford saw the juke nismo and said “That......that is what we need. This will REDEEM US! And SAVE US! As our flagship RS is drowning in its own coolant and the Fiesta sits, rotting, eternally waiting.”

aka the Ford Kuga in Europe.
Ford Europe do an ST-Line and ST-Line X of the Kuga.
Think ST styling on a regular car.

So does that make it a tall Focus RS, or a pint-size CUVoid Raptor?

Why would more performance vehicles be bad exactly?
![]() 01/10/2018 at 19:44 |

I don’t know. It might just be a tall Fusion Sport.

But the picture Ford teased doesn’t match. The Escape’s tailgate shoots straight down, along with the EcoSport. The only models that do have that slant at the tailgate are the Fiesta, Edge, Explorer and judging from spy shots, the next Focus. I went a little bit more in depth else where, but I concluded it’s an Edge. Can’t exactly rule out the Explorer, but the badge placement isn’t right.
That being said this isn’t the first time I’ve heard about an Escape ST.

There is already the Edge Sport. The Escape is the most popular seller.

Soo, all show no go?

:P Bring us the new FieSTa morans!

I put some thoughts here but my guess is going to be that the Sport branding is going away and ST is taking place of it. Just like Europe has ST/ST-line of everything (including an S-max? come on) Edge makes sense based on other timing/clues.
Also, I believe Escape just got a refresh for 2017, so an ST model now doesn’t make much sense.

It’s not a bad thing, but... It’s not really exciting.

There will be no less than 10 mentions of “sporty” and “dynamic” in the ad.

Honestly though, do cuv buyers need more go? I think it looks good.
![]() 01/10/2018 at 19:58 |

Yes but Ford could easily change that if they it to. The Sport doesn’t exactly go far in terms of performance besides some extra power. It’s due for a refresh (Hence the new Lincoln MKX/Nautilus), so this would be a good way to introduce it. I definitely believe an Escape ST could be coming, just not yet.
The same goes for the Explorer as well since that is soon due for an entire new redesign. However I’m still leaning on the Edge. The Explorer Sport has way more popularity than the Edge Sport.

It’s gunna be a SLAMMED, stretched tire, wide offset wheel, RSmotor escape from the factory.

All the car companies are doing it.
Audi S-Line. The looks of an S with the spec of an SE.
Vauxhall VX-Line. The looks of a VXR with the spec of an SRi,
Ford ST-Line. the looks of an ST with the spec of (I believe but not totally sure) a Zetec.
etc...

The Edge is long overdue for an update, but I doubt this is it.

It doesn’t match the lines of the hatch, unless the ST badge is the size of a football.

Next up, the 2020 F-250 Super Duty ST

It would be on the bottom right of the hatch where it says Sport. Notice how it has the slant where as the Escape is just a long line down.

Please let it be a baby raptor!
An escape with the focus rs drivetrain would be ok but kinda boring
![]() 01/10/2018 at 20:25 |

The gap is too small to be an Edge.
![]() 01/10/2018 at 20:29 |

But what kind of performance are we talking about? I hope it’s a baby Raptor instead a tall Focus RS
![]() 01/10/2018 at 20:34 |

I’m guessing they are going for handling.

It’s possible they move the badge over which would remove most of that gap. Honestly besides what I’ve mentioned I’m out of ideas. It’s not the Focus because there’s a line where the badge is. We know it’s not a Fiesta. It’s not the Fusion because of the badging. The only other vehicle is the Explorer which was rumored to be revealed soon. But on the current model the badging is higher up, and the new one doesn’t look too different
Unless that red tape would indicate where the badges go and are being covered. Though they could just be acting as reflectors. On second thought, there is room for badging there. Though the top of the bumper looks a little too long.

Explorer ST would not be surprising; gotta compete with the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

The FoXT is a strange result of what happens when you take an Impreza WRX and have it get a room with a SUV.

Boo, that means it’s going to be $40k+ for a less plush MKC. Make it a baby Raptor and suddenly its closest competitor is the Cherokee Trailhawk.

Well I was wrong, they did do it to their worst selling CUV. That’s lame. They basically changed the Sport to ST.
